  • Dr. Ayman Ismail is the Assistant Professor and Abdul Latif Jameel Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship at the American University in Cairo School of Business.

    His research focuses on entrepreneurship venture capital and private equity in emerging markets economic development in the Middle East industrial strategy international technology diffusion and knowledge transfer to developing countries technology policy and innovation energy and food security and the political economy of development. 

    Dr. Ismail is a former Research Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. 

    He received his Ph.D. in International Economic Development from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). 

    He also holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering and an MBA from the American University in Cairo, and a master’s in city planning and geographic information systems from MIT. 

    He is also a co-founder and Managing Partner in Enovio, a management & strategy consulting firm operating in the US and the Middle East. Prior to that, he was a consultant in McKinsey & Company Business Technology Office, based in New York for several years.

    Dr. Ismail has advised senior management in leading Fortune 100 companies, fast-growing startups, government agencies, and non-profits on key organization, operations, and technology issues. 

    He has also consulted and conducted research for international organizations such as the World Bank and UNCTAD, as well as multiple US government agencies. 

    Dr. Ismail has a broad multidisciplinary experience in economic development, business strategy, city planning, and technology-based on professional practice and academic research. 

    Dr. Ismail is a co-founder and member of the Board of Directors of Nahdet El-Mahrousa, a leading NGO incubating social entrepreneurs and social ventures targeting economic and social development issues in Egypt. He is also an Endeavor VentureCorps Mentor, advising entrepreneurs.

    For nearly two decades after graduating from the University of Miami TD led the implementation of innovative technology-led transformation initiatives in the Oil & Gas, Retail, Information Technology and Telecommunications industries for influential global brands Elf Aquitaine, Marks & Spencer, Ernst & Young and Sapient across Europe, the United States and Southeast Asia

    In 2000 his focus shifted to Africa where he helped create the African Agriculture Technology Foundation (AATF), led the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) initiative in Nigeria and delivered a World Bank pilot of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system (IPPIS) that uncovered over 20,000 ghost workers in the Nigerian Government payroll system. Leading these kinds of innovative initiatives in Africa using his goal-oriented approach to project delivery which consistently delivered effective results inspired his 2014 book “The African Project Manager”.

    TD is Chairman of TextNigeria (Telecoms) and Non-Executive Director at MBO Capital (Private Equity) and Big Cabal Media (Media & Entertainment). He is a member of the Lagos State Science, Research & Innovation Council (LASRIC) and sits on the board of Laptops4Learning (L4L) Nigeria, the World Business Angels Investment Forum (WBAF) and the Global Business Angels Network (GBAN).

  • Mr. Detelinov joined Riyad Capital in 2013 and is currently the Head of Private Equity Funds, overseeing among others the Riyad TAQNIA Fund (RTF), a technology VC fund focused on Seed and Series A opportunities. He brought to Riyad Capital a wealth of investing experience from North America and Europe.  

     

    From 1996 to 1998, Mr. Detelinov worked in the Technology Equity Research department at Merrill Lynch where he covered publicly-listed Enterprise Software companies.  From 1998 to 2001, he worked at MWI & Partners, a Private Equity fund associated with Merrill Lynch.  Following the completion of his MBA degree (Finance) from New York University’s Stern School of Business in 2003, Mr. Detelinov joined the Financial Sponsors Group of Merrill Lynch, where he assisted in the origination, diligence and deal execution global PE and VC firms in New York (for seven years) and in London (for three years).  He is a CFA Charterholder.
